About Us

Taste of Summer Catering, a division of David’s Catering and Events, was created to meet the needs of our web-savvy “high-speed” clients. After many summers packed with backyard barbeques, full-service clambakes, and unique pig roasts, David’s created Taste of Summer to provide all-inclusive pre-priced catering information at your finger tips.

David’s Catering and Events was founded in 1991 by David Poritzky.  David’s is a full-service, owner-operated, upscale social caterer, serving fresh, flavorful food for a variety of settings.

Our events range from elegant weddings, small dinner parties, clambakes, pig roasts, and seasonal corporate barbeques to equestrian shows for 5,000.  Whether your party is in a mansion, an open field, in your home, backyard or on the beach, David's is able to meet all of your needs.

Davids' professional team will prepare delicious plentiful food and present it with gracious elegance. Our knowledgeable and imaginative professionals will work with you to create an event that will exceed your expectations.

David Starting the business at the age of 19, David built a complete commercial kitchen on wheels from scratch, selling gourmet sandwiches as Davids World Famous, which has grown into a highly successful restaurant and an expanding corporate catering business.  David’s Catering and Events, with its rapidly growing reputation as a creative and delicious social "boutique” caterer, is wowing clients around the Boston area.

In addition, summers find his fleet of restaurant service vehicles at some of the leading equestrian jumper shows in the Northeast, such as the Hampton Classic on Long Island, Vermont Summer Festival, the Boston Jumper Classic in Hamilton, and all the way south to the Capital Challenge in Upper Marlboro, Maryland.

David’s newest venture, with partner and sister Betsy Maselek, is GrandmasChickenSoup.com, an internet business that sends gift packages of fresh chicken soup throughout the U.S. as a “delicious alternative to sending flowers.”

Xyomie Padilla The broad experience of Xyomie Padilla, Catering Sales Manager, adds a unique touch to the team at David’s Catering and Events. Xyomie started her career as an international importer/ exporter of fine Italian jewelry. After extensive time buying and selling in Italy, Xyomie realized her passion lay with Italy’s food and wine. She then changed career paths, graduated from The Cambridge School of Culinary Arts and the Elizabeth Bishop Wine Resource Center at Boston University to become a chef and sommelier and ditched the jewelry industry (and David is glad she did).

After moving to Massachusetts, Xyomie honed her skills in the kitchen as the owner and executive chef of The Main Ingredient Catering and most recently as Executive Sous Chef at Capers Catering of Stoneham, MA.

Xyomie brings great passion to every menu she creates for our clients with her ability to think outside the box and integrate the culinary influences of the world’s cuisines.  She takes the “sales” out of selling to make all of David’s clients feel at ease with the planning of their special event.  Her elegant manner makes each person with whom she comes in contact feel like a new friend.

Amy HoffenbergThe talents of our Catering Manager, Amy Hoffenberg, have been cultivated through her work with clients from coast to coast.  After receiving her BA from the University of Rhode Island, Amy jumped into her professional career as a project manager in the internet technology world. With some work experience under her belt, Amy’s love of “all things food” took her career in a different direction-literally. In 2001, Amy packed up and headed west to the beaches of San Diego where she embarked on her new career as a Catering Assistant for the prestigious La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club.  Amy proved to be a quick learner and moved up the ranks to eventually become the Catering Manager of the club and sister Sea Lodge Hotel.  After several years of fun in the sun in the San Diego area, it was time to pack up and come “home.” Following a brief stint as an event manager at a hotel on Boston’s North Shore, Amy found her home as the Catering Manager with David’s Catering and Events.

With Amy at the helm of your event, her precise attention to detail, both behind the scenes and in the dining room, will make your event run like a well-oiled machine.  Amy’s ability to put our clients and their guests at ease will make you think she is part of your family. (Please don’t hug her too much at the end of your event.)

Barbara Burke As one of our Event Coordinating Specialists, Barbara Burke has developed her skills as "the person who brings all the pieces together." With a BA in Business Management, Barbara began her culinary career as "Head of Kitchen" at highly acclaimed Tiger Lilly Catering before traveling south to expand her culinary and event coordinating knowledge aboard Luxury Yachts in Fort Lauderdale and the Bahamas.  Upon returning to New England, Barbara spent a year learning the ins and outs of a high volume specialty baking company by managing at Iggy's Breads of the World.

Barbara brings the perfect balance to the chaotic world of catering, providing every one of our customers with the assurance that they are in caring, capable hands, calmly guiding you through the process of hosting an event.

Without question, the Boston area catering scene has gotten a lot more interesting and competitive with the team of “Boutique Caterers” that David Poritzky has assembled at David’s Catering and Events.  Creating memorable events and unique cuisine is a shared vision that David’s team brings to this competitive market.
